Hi @drsdg , I totally agree with your point about how slow the studies are moving, and the fact that BIG Pharma isn't rushing to fund stem cell research definitely doesn’t help patients looking for real-world options. I was in a similar boat, exploring alternatives for joint and bone issues (in my case, degenerative changes + early osteoporosis), and I ended up going to R3 Stem Cell Mexico in Tijuana. I did my homework, had a long phone call with Dr. David Greene beforehand, and was treated by Dr. Francisco Fernandez at the clinic. They use umbilical cord-derived MSCs (so no bone harvesting like iliac crest) and the whole process was very professional and surprisingly affordable compared to what I was quoted in the U.S.

I totally understand that results can vary, but personally, I’ve felt a huge difference in mobility and overall inflammation over the past few months. One thing I appreciated was that they showed me third-party lab reports before treatment - actual cell counts, sterility tests, etc., which gave me peace of mind. If you're still exploring options, it might be worth looking into.

Thank you for your response. Umbilical stem cells are not FDA approved for musculoskeletal issues in the US. For MSK we can only use autograft, harvest from our own bone (ie, iliac crest) for mesenchymal cells. This is probably why you went to Mexico. Many countries will do this, Mexico, Costa Rica, Thailand, etc.
I am glad you had positive response to the treatment. However, you, (from what you posted) I would think the efficacy was derived more for the degenerative changes than the osteoporosis. I say this only because typical osteoporosis, especially early or mild usually is asymptomatic. The decrease in ROM and discomfort with mobility was more than likely due to the DJD. There is certainly more data on stem cells and DJD than with Osteoporosis. I am still looking deeply into this and getting as much info from practicing doctors and clinics as I can. Again, I appreciate your input, will look at the clinic in Tijuana and gather more data. This is a journey for certain and will try and keep you abreast as to my plans. Right now, I am investigating many avenues, including endocrinologists, rheumatologists, western drugs, eastern medicine and doing a lot of testing via blood, urine, GI and stool to see about absorption, PTH etc. Many things to look at as to cause of bone loss. Thanks again and if you feel, respond with questions or input. I appreciate it.
