Ethambutol - side effects
On day 3 of ethambutol (just starting treatment for first time), and I'm having headaches for first time. I don't get headaches, but it's hard to know what it's from or if it's related. Anyone else experience this?

Forgive my typos..No preservatives! Not perogatives..lol!
Lulu thank you for taking the time. I suppose one could just take the S Boulardi capsule but the fermented juice sounds better. Last time I tried a capsule of S Boulardi it caused my heart to race in the PM. But I want to try the juice idea at 1/4 cup at a time. Your technique sounds good and very helpful to me so thanks again. Did you only have to warm the towel initially? I have also had GI issues since my 30's mostly but really all my life. It runs in my family. So it becomes a big issue if you also need to use antibiotics with BE and Pseudomonas or MAC in your case. The yogurt is more confusing to me. All the information online from Dr Davis seems to indicate the L reuteri is for weight loss but sounds like it helped stop diarrhea for you so that is promising. BUT Also making it sounds/looks complicated so I got discouraged because of that plus the idea of any more weight loss. I am bone thin already.
I go to the same clinic! I’m on Azyth and Eth too with a side of nebulizer and inhaler! I’m about 6months into treatment and finally starting to feel like myself again. But still having symptoms, just not as pronounced. The recommendation to get my eyes checked led to cataract surgeries though so I’m in the middle of that right now. What a journey it’s been so far. Small world though. Hope you are doing well.
If you take 1/4 cup a day at first, you get 16 servings out of that 32 ounces (if it doesn't spew out of the bottle 😁) and you've only used one capsule. Im a senior living on Social Security and have to live frugally as I am able. Dr Davis said you can definitely just take the capsules so my plan is to keep making the fermented juice to save money, keep some capsules always on hand and if I run out of juice before I can make more or dont feel like making more juice, I'll just take the capsule a few days till I'm able to make more juice. No, I didn't reheat the towel the first day, but reheated it the second morning when I got up. I like to experiment. It was 95 degrees here yesterday. I walked into my garage and it wasn't unbearably hot, so I placed a thermometer on top of my chest freezer and when I went back 2 hours later to check it the temperature read 88F. Im going to try my next batch out there. And you are so welcome. If you want to know more just let me know! As always, forgive typos...my daughter says she has learned to decipher my text messages finally.🤣
It is a small world! Are you in Charleston? I am in Greenville. I had gone out to National Jewish Health and then they referred me to MUSC when I asked for a recommendation. I just started the Ethambutol a few days ago after doing the Azythro alone for a week. So far, no bad symptoms but it is early in my starting. I am very tired. I am not sure if that is a side effect, but I have noticed it lately. What side effects have you experienced?
I'm really glad to connect on this as it really does help talking to others that are experiencing the same. It's a hard disease to explain to others who don't know about it. So glad to hear that you are starting to feel like yourself. It gives me hope!

I doubt there is any difference if you use these instead of Florastor and much cheaper. I use these on occasion. Plan to use for making the juice. By the way, I was assuming that making the juice somehow actually increases the potency of just one capsule through the fermentation process.
Hi- Yes, the first month or so it took some getting used to. My disease had a real foothold and fatigue and the incessant productive coughing were my biggest problems! I had been through several treatments of antibiotics prior to this treatment and of course they weren’t effective. It took a month or so before I started to notice any change though. After about 6 weeks, I could tell things were slowly getting better but symptoms were still really licked in. Then I started feeling impatient and that was when I finally had to just surrender my own high expectations and just let it take its course. The disease will fight to stay and I just try to remember, they said it would take a long time to get rid of it. Give yourself some grace and try to be patient. If you are exhausted, it’s ok. That’s normal. The meds are strong and it may take you awhile to adjust. Your schedule may have to change to accommodate it. Don’t overdo. When the Wall starts appearing, don’t hit it. Just recognize that’s as much as you can do today. I haven’t really had any drastic side effects from the drugs and I totally expected to! The disease itself has enough of those so I feel grateful that there aren’t anymore! I go in for a scan in September to peek at my lungs so I’m hoping things are improving at that point. They certainly feel like it’s getting better. Much less coughing, sleeping so much better and being able to talk without the coughing has really helped my mental health. I live alone so when I do get a chance to be with friends and family, my ability to communicate is so important to me. I know it’s going to be at least another 6-9 months before I can hope it’s gone but when quality of life improves, so does everything else. I live in Charleston so it’s super convenient to get to the NTM Clinic thank goodness. When I first started to go for care, I had no idea what to expect but I have to say, they really treat the whole patient there and I am so thrilled to get that level of care. I hope you can get thru the next few weeks with ease and that you will begin to see a good effect soon. Funny story: I recently was in getting cataract surgery on my eye and the woman who was doing my pre op check list was looking at my list of meds and she said “oh you see Dr Mingora downtown! I used to process all the labs that her clinic sends in. I looked at her and said “you mean, all the sputum samples?” She laughed and said yeeees… All I could say was “Ooohhhh! Ewwwww! You poor thing! Anyway, another small world marker! Please feel free to stay in touch here. It does help to think global and act local, especially when we need a little help to stay on track.
