Lantus Solostar

Posted by earringgirl1000 @earringgirl1000, 2 days ago

I have been taking the Lantus Solostar for a little over a year I feel horrible does this affect anybody else. I don’t have energy anymore I don’t get anything done on my days off anymore what’s up?

I used to take Lantus years ago. (Now on pump, so just fast acting) I don’t recall a problem with it. How is your blood sugar running since taking it? I’m Type 1, so I also took fast acting insulin. If my numbers were high I might feel tired or not as energetic. Lower numbers enable me to feel healthy and strong. I attribute it to the blood sugar levels and not the particular insulin.

If your numbers are in an ideal range, I’d ask your doctor about switching to a different insulin. And, get a checkup to rule out some other issue.

My numbers are still high especially in the morning and that’s what I don’t understand they are higher since I have been on it. I have a lot of questions for my dr when I go back next month. I am a type 2 diabetic.

That is good you have a Dr. appointment soon. Hopefully you and your doctor can figure out the best insulin to treat your type 2 diabetes. I used to use Lantus Solostar and it was very helpful for controlling blood sugars. At present I have a CGM and a pump. These are continual glucose monitoring and insulin delivery system devices. It uses a different type of insulin. Hope and pray you get the answers you need.

Hi,
Lantus solostar can cause all sorts of problems with some of us. I have found it is the carrier chemical in the Lantus that I react to, which happens to be the same in each injectable insulin. I have not met a diabetic medication that does it's job and leaves me alone, I have reacted to it all. No one would believe me until my wife started confirming what I was saying it does to me. I was on 22 units per day and it took around 3 weeks to turn me into a monster. I have been trialing 6 units a day to try and get the body used to it, just took longer for a reaction to cripple me. Now off all diabetic meds and going it alone feeling great again.
Still working to find a solution though, just what that might be I have no idea, and neither do my doctors.
Medicine is targeted at "normal" people not those of us on the fringe of normal, medically.
Cheers

Lantus is basal insulin. It purpose is to keep certain level insulin consistently in your body. Dosage depends on the body weight and other factors. Unless you have a concierge medical team or a really good doctor who will spend a lot of time with you going over your detailed blood glucose log, you will need to start doing it yourself. Here are three books that will help you get started.
Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution
Master Your Diabetes by Mona Morstein
and
"Think like a Pancreas" by Gary Scheiner.
It is a lot of reading and it will be your reference that you will have to revisit when you are not sure what to do.

This approach worked for me and it will work for you.
It is a lot of work and it will never end. But it is worth the effort.

I would caution anyone with high glucose levels about forgoing prescribed insulin. High BG numbers can cause diabetic ketoacidosis, organ damage, and death. I’d work closely with health care professionals to find the right dosage amounts.

Some type 2’s require long acting insulin AND fast acting with meals to maintain good levels. Also, some people are initially diagnosed as type 2, but later determined to be type 1. With the right doses, the bg will come down. A cgm is often helpful to tweak those doses. There are also medications other than insulin that can help with blood glucose levels. I’d especially explore those.

Refusing to take insulin when it’s needed is very dangerous. I’d seek help with understanding that situation and how to treat it.

Hi,
I don't like being untreated or unmanaged, with Autonomic polyneuropathy and diabetic neuropathy happening it is not a nice place to be. Being off meds is great until you consider the damage it is doing to my body. So far it is affecting my kidneys GFR34, digestive system completely stuffed, hands and feet up to my knees having problems. For the most part my eyes are still fairly good most days. I don't recommend not treating ailments unless there is a desperate reason to do so. I have to go untreated because the cure is worse than the cause in the present time, but the consequences are unrestricted damage is being done without a doubt. I chose to live a comfortable live over a miserable one no matter the consequences always hopeful for a change in the future. Until people are in my position they can't comprehend the difficult choices I have to make.
Cheers
