I just had an appointment with an oral medicine specialist and she is starting me on Dexamethasone .5 mg/5ml sol hikm mouthwash, along with Clobetasol Propionate Cream USP, .05%
Put a bit of the cream on the tongue and then swish with 10 ml of the mouthwash for 3-5 minutes and spit out. Avoid water for 30 minutes after treatment. Repeat until resolution of symptoms or after 2 weeks, whichever comes first. You can put a little bit of the cream right on any lesions if it's really bad. She also prescribed oral lozenges Clotrimazole to dissolve in mouth if a side effect of burning suddenly increases following use of topical steroids.
Then I go back and see the Dr after 2 weeks for an evaluation.
I'll post again and let you know how it works.

P>S> Oh, in addition, my Dr switched my toothpaste to naturally friendly Hello kids toothpaste with fluoride. It's a little sweet, but I guess easier on the mouth. Fun flavors: wild strawberry, unicorn sparkle bubblegum, and dragon dazzle blue raspberry, plus more minty flavors...

I’m so glad you were able to get your doctor to give you a prescription for the Dexamethasone elixir. I didn’t combine with the clobetosol because I had a very bad reaction to the clobetosol when it was prescribed for my Lichen Sclerosus. I’ll be eager to hear how it all works out for you.Good luck!
