I told my husband last night that it was time to stop driving and gave the reasons you mentioned. Amazingly, he took it rather well. Perhaps it's beginning to sink in just how much help he needs and he's being very grateful and affectionate. My brother-in-law has offered to get him a Lyft app and cover the cost. Very kind.
