To answer your question about discounts, yes many hotels offer Mayo Clinic patients a discount and flexibility if your schedule changes.

Right now Rochester downtown is in middle of multiple construction projects and driving and parking downtowns can be frustrating. So, if you pick a hotel that is either walking distance or provides a shuttle, you can avoid the hassle of parking. Kahler inn is right across the street from Mayo Clinic. It also has free underground parking. It has a restaurant that is pretty good. You can probably find a fancier hotel but this one is so convenient. They do give a discount to patients. Shuttles also run from there.
