@kate2025 Happy 4th. I’m glad you asked these questions. I was wondering the same thing. Looking forward to some guidance. Bless

If your water heater is set amount above 130F and you put HOT water and dish soap in the sink with your dishes, then let it cool until touchable, there should be no NTM present and no steam. Then use appropriate tools, including brushes to clean inner and outer surfaces of everything- this loosens any bacteria particles or biofilm clinging to surfaces. Rinse with hot water and air dry. Wipe out the sink. Using hot soapy water or a cleaner wipe all countertops and "touch surfaces" -faucets, knobs, handles and switches.
Even better is to use the dishwasher when possible.
Finally, sanitize your brushes, scrubber, etc. I do mine in the dishwasher. I use thin cellulose "Swedish dishcloths," cotton dishtowels and separate hand towels, changed everydayor two defending on use, washed and dried separately. Sponges are difficult to keep free of bacteria even when microwaved due to the millions of tiny pores.
This is basic food safety training and works for NTM with the hotter water.
