Hi, rollo8 (@rollo8)

I hardly gave my Hokas a fair chance to prove themselves to me. 🙂 I tried, for 8-10 days, then returned them. They felt like I'd strapped sofa cushions to my feet. Like you, I need a firmer, more positive contact with the ground. I've tried and liked Brooks and New Balance over the years, although right now I'm wearing Sketchers as my go-everywhere shoes. My Sketchers aren't perfect, but they're not bad. After all these years and all these different shoes, I'm now only inches away from accepting that with PN there is no truly, 100%, no-qustions-asked "perfect" shoe. Some come close, especially as each of us has a different need. At the moment, I can live with that.

Cheers!

If you want a firm, good ground contact shoe you might check out Mephisto shoe. I went to a shoe store after I got plantar fasciitis and told the salesman I wanted to try on shoes but I didn't want to know the brand or cost and sure enough the Mephisto shoes were the most comfortable however also the most expensive.
Take care,
Jake

I was the last in my family to get a pair of Hoka, Gaviota 5. They are ok. But my “go to” shoe has been for years are SAS (San Antonio Shoes). The Oxford. As a teacher I would get a new pair each year and I still stand by them. I have diabetic neuropathy with severe numbness.
