Mine is also a clival meningioma, pressing against the trigeminal nerve, which is causing numbness in my face. I’m going for surgery to prevent further damage, especially to prevent growth near the brain stem. I’m told radiation follow up - at some point down the line, will be safer if we’ve been able to debulk the tumor. 4-6 weeks recovery, mostly fatigue. Hopefully. Risks w the surgery are scary, but my doctor tells me that permanent defects are less than 10%, closer to 5. I’m going w those odds!

My neurosurgeon talked about radiation as well. His peer review team thinks radiation is not an option because mine is small (2 cm) and the location at C1. But not not an option. Does that make sense? My neurosurgeon told me to expect 8-12 week "recovery", although he told me to prepare for a full year. Plus the 12 weeks in a cervical collar. You're right, the risks of surgery do sound so scary. But I too am going with the lower odds. Keep us posted. When is your surgery scheduled for?
