I'm a "hummer," too. Did not realize that the hum was an actual phenom until I stumbled on an NPR story about it, in my early 50's. I also have tinnitus, both ears, but have always been able to distinguish between that and the hum, which seems to emanate from some distant place. Once, in the company of a friend late of an evening, I heard the hum, and asked my friend to listen for it. She DID hear it.
