I have about the same problems you do - terrible neck pain and L5-S1 pain, and down the leg. In my case they didn't have your surgery available yet, so they removed it - laminectomy. I had multiple rhizotomies in my neck, severing the nerves leaving the joints. That worked for a whileGabapentin was horrible, even at a low dose. I slept all the time, had decreased balance, and actually began to lose my vision. That's all I need to say about that drug.
Hydrochodone was the answer. I'm managing that part of my life now.
I hate that it seems like everyone has had trouble taking Gabapentin, I have been taking it 3 times a day for about a year now. 300 mg for legs and feet numbness with no problem but also no improvement. I will undergo surgery (decompression) on August 5th as the nerve canal is almost closed in my lower back. I am 75 and still play tennis for 2 to 3 hours 3 times a week but cannot stand or walk my dog for 10 minutes without my legs and feet going numb to the extent that I have fallen. Don't want to stop Gabapentin until after surgery and hopefully total recovery. Planning on an update after surgery.
