What happens at a first appointment on a Friday afternoon?

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I am sorry I cannot give you a definite answer on if and when testing will be scheduled. I go to Rochester Mayo and due to high demand for MRIs, radiology does run extended shifts.
Has your son created a sign-on to Mayo Portal? Appointments may be added as you get closer to the appointment date. If he is a minor or your his caretaker, there is process for caretakers to acess his portal.
Also, has your son had recent MRIs done elsewhere and have the scans been shared with Mayo?

Yes we have the portal and he has had several tests with normal results. There is only thr initial appointment in the portal and they do have previous tests.
