Lower back, flank and abdominal pain (right side only)
38, female, no pre-existing conditions. 16 months post-partum.
Experiencing almost constant dull, achey pain mostly in the lower back, flank and abdominal. Sometimes the pain radiates into the glute and thigh and as high as the bottom of the rib cage. Right side only.
Have had blood work completed (3), urinalysis, ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound, CT without contrast, CT with contrast (both unremarkable).
Pain started in January and fluctuates daily in varying degrees but is almost constantly there.
No other symptoms.
Currently on wait for an MRI (year waiting list) and referral to see a GI specialist (also a long wait).
Have kept track and there appears to be no correlation between foods, activities etc. and the pain.
Has anyone experienced this before? Ideas?
Thank you.

Gallbladder? Liver? Review latest blood labs checking for inflammation, liver function, white blood cells? You need current medical treatment - waiting a year is like no medical insurance at all! Be persistent in your daily calls to your MD explaining pain level and location! Best health care requires you to advocate for appropriate care.

Any abnormality in your urine. Doesn't sound like gallbladder, that's more of a colicky pain with fatty foods.
WBC normal? Worse when pressed on lower R quadrant?
No abnormality in the urinalysis. WBC was in normal range.
I’d say pressing on the lower R quadrant doesn’t really cause much or replicate the pain. The lower back, into my glute and flank is much worse.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for your reply.
All bloodwork has been normal, minus low B12.
Yes, unfortunately our healthcare system is a little broken. Referrals take forever! I’ll do some calling to my PCP.
My 'to-go' for any pain is is to make stronger the area of the body that has pain. It seems to have always worked -- especially midriff/back pains. It's also works like panacea!
I see you say no change in activities but pain is often a signal of weaker, un- or under-exercised limb or area. I'd have consulted a physical therapist, if you must.
Here's one from NYTimes for all-round but the first one is good for all of us:

I definitely agree with you, I do play soccer 2 to 3 times a week and have a bit of a home exercise routine when I can, as I have a 16 month old.
Thanks so much for your reply and the article. Will take a look!
