Has anyone had surgery for a hiatal hernia?

I had one in 2011, had surgery. Now last year in December I was in the hospital with a small bowel obstruction due to adhesions from previous abdominal surgery. It sucks. They stated only way to fix it is more surgery which can also lead to more adhesions. There are risks with every abdominal surgery and there are risks if you don't do it. Then suddenly years later you also have complications from surgery. It did help with my hernia though. My sister had the same one, same doctor even.. years later she had severe problems due to the mesh bunching up inside her some how. She had to have another surgery, which it was difficult to find a surgeon who would even touch it, and they replaced it with pig skin. She has been gone since.

@shaleenv - I'm really sorry to hear about the complications from your hernia surgery.

Will you share more about what these complications have been like? Also wondering about your sister and her surgery. Are you saying she passed away?
