4 days post RARP

Posted by happydappy @happydappy, 5 days ago

It's been 4 days since RARP surgery at UNC cancer center of excellence. Pathology report showed negative margins, higher proportion of Gleason 4 than biopsies, and cribriform glands were found (not seen in biopsies). Glad I got the surgery.

Now to get this catheter out, start rehab, and get clean PSA tests.

Hang in there - my catheter comes out tomorrow and I'm beyond ready!

I was not a fan of the catheter. I am shuddering thinking about it but it came out fine. I peed all over the place when they pulled it out lol. Bring a pad or pull up is my suggestion for the freedom ride home. Best of luck to both of you!

As suggested below, Bring a pad or diaper you will need it. I had to complete a Void Test and like EJ4902 I peed everywhere.

I went prepared, but so far no leakage. We'll see how tonight goes.

You got this. Think one step at a time. Get ready now by walking and doing kegels. After surgery keep up with pain control for the first few days. Take laxatives because that whole pelvic floor area is impacted. Eat properly and drink lots of fluids. Follow instructions for the catheter to avoid infections. Find a comfortable place to hang out. Take off work to rest and heal. Before you know it, the catheter is out and you'll start feeling better.

At this time I have 8 days of paid time off and I hope to have a couple more days by then. That should be enough time to finish with the catheter. Work should be easy enough, I won’t have to lift anything, mostly sitting and some walking. I am hopeful that my recovery will be quick and smooth, I am going to try and stay positive, I’m ready to get this cancer out of my body.

Staying positive and keeping the goal in mind are key. For me, the final pathology report was worse than the biopsies confirming a good decision.

My doctor put down up to four weeks of leave for my work's short term disability insurance plan. I'm hoping to use about two weeks but not gonna push it.
