Menisectomy / Meniscus Surgery
I’m in my 4th week of recovery from having a meniscectomy and my knee is still somewhat sore and gives off some sharp pains from time to time. Is this common?

wt1, I had the same surgery in 2018. It took me a while to recover completely and my knee stayed sore for a
while and painful. I do think this is normal.
Praying for your complete recovery. Blessings....
Thank you. God Bless You. ✝️
I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee back in mid-April. So that's been almost 2-1/2 months. I've got a ways to go. I'm toying with the idea for getting hyaluronic acid injection in each knee and/or steroid injections under each kneecap to help ease the pain and help me progress further with PT.
My knee and the entire leg is still swollen and has some sharp jabbing pains at times. I had a small piece of cartilage removed (I think they call that a Grade 4 change) that leaves me with bone-on-bone contact in that that small area if I'm in the position that allows the contact. No damage to ligaments, the ACL was slightly swollen but intact and no tears.
Sharp pain is what you get because It depends how much damage you had and what degree of repairs they did and if you are straining the swollen tissue. They usually report all of the meniscus post-op physical details in what is called an "Operative Report" . Ask for it if they did not generate one for you.
I'd say that commonly 3 months recovery time is normal depending on your age and how much physical therapy rotating movement you will do to keep your knee loosened up. I get pain from trying to bend my knee. I can only bend it half way, and my walking gait is not normal as yet. No use of a cane. Both knees are sore when I move and walking down the steps is somewhat painful. I'm on Tylenol (daily), meloxicam (daily), and lyrica 25 mg (daily) for nerve pain. I was on gabapentin until a month ago for my back pain, but it did no good, and I stopped it. Good luck, keep the gentle movements going!
Thank you and good luck to you as well. May everything work out for you (and me) in time. God bless
