Welcome @brandon808, You are not alone and I'm really glad that you found Connect. My neuropathy started in my 40s and I'm now 82. I only have the numbness and some tingling for symptoms but don't have any of the awful pain that others have. I shared my journey in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/. There are many different discussions in the Neuropathy Support group that you might want to scan through to learn what experiences others have shared - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/neuropathy/. The best thing you can do to help yourself is to learn as much as you can about your condition and what treatments may provide some form of relief. One of the best sources I've found is the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy - https://www.foundationforpn.org/living-well/.

There is an upcoming free webinar that I shared in another discussion that you might helpful.

Upcoming Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy Webinar
Neuropathic Pain - Treatment Options, Cost Considerations and Current Limitations

In this webinar sponsored by Lilly, the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy is pleased to welcome guest speaker Brian Callaghan, MD from the University of Michigan. In this program, patients will learn about different ways to treat nerve pain that are supported by the American Academy of Neurology. These include medicines you take by mouth, creams you put on your skin, and other non-medicine options. We will also look at how much these treatments cost and what they mean for patients. Finally, we’ll explain what results people can expect from these treatments and some of the limits they may have.

What is the symptom that is the most difficult for you to manage?

You are not alone - every day I think great I’ll stop and - the pain starts and the opportunity is missed. I am supposed to be sitting on the deck of a ship in the sun. No the pain stopped that

The neuropathy started for me 19 years ago after completing Interferon therapy. My doctors think it’s a coincidence.
Brandon, I understand how you feel because I felt the same way. I powered through by having frank conversations with my doctors. Between primary, neurologist and pain management I was put on an antidepressant, Gabapentin and Tramadol which did a pretty good job controlling my pain.
I found I no longer needed the antidepressant once my pain got under control. It’s never zero but it’s tolerable with the meds.

I feel for you. I've been in your shoes had neuropathy since 2015 with my prosthetomy. Although they won't tell me that that's what it's from I'm positive after all these years that's when it started that's when I got tested for it. I do not have diabetes I said I would never take that test again because it was so painful and I've been through a lot. So in the end it comes up inconclusive. At this point all they want to do is put me on gabaplatten. Increased dosage as we go I gained 30 pounds and no help. The neuropathy's getting worse starts in the balls of my feet then goes to the front of my feet my toes up halfway my leg in my calfs. Could not feel that needle in the front or the back of my calf couldn't wiggle my toes up to a year ago it got worse and I was fearing god knows what. Honestly what I did was short of incredible. I've been on Lyrica i've been on a couple other drugs for peripheral neuropathy no direction from anybody spend thousands of dollars on supplements none of them work. Fractured my hip in February of 24 long way back I have a titanium rod in my femur with a screw in my hip to attach it had to learn to walk again I said This is going to be it i'm done I had a Walker. Well I gave up sugar processed food alcohol which I had an issue with. I lost over 50 pounds went to the gym go there 4 days a week walk two to three miles a day nothing crazy. Neuropathy reversed I now wiggle my toes I do red light therapy every morning I eat fresh fruit vegetables drink water no soda. Telling you it can be done and I'm living proof. You can ask my family. Godspeed!
My only issue is the cold weather does not help. I was in Florida for a vacation last month. My brother and his wife. Wish I had the money I would move to Florida the villages to be exact. You could use the pool every day they have a recreation pool. I love it there but financially I can't afford it. So I put it out in the universe as I do with my prayers and pray to God maybe something happens where I can move there. Social Security and a small income..
Again good luck!
Paul
