Expression through art

Posted by januaryjane @januaryjane, 5 days ago

I took art in HS and really enjoyed it. Im pretty creative and looking for a new hobby to start. Im thinking about getting into chalk art and maybe something where I put my own unique stuff together.

Im really not a sewer or anything like that, precision can be difficult with my crazy fingers.

Anyone have good ideas or links to videos?
Thanks in advance

@mojo244 follow up. Scratch art is something I did in elementary school in the late 1950’s!
We would use crayons to color the first layer with pretty colors. Then we took a black crayon, and used it to completely cover all the colors.
To scratch I remember using the pointy end of a compass.

Well now that you mention that, I think we might have done that in the 60’s too!

I have learned so much by watching YouTube videos! My latest hobby is making purses/bags out of recycled jeans. Also, I attended virtual workshops recently called Making Zen and learn a number of techniques, which I used to decorate the pocket on the bag in the picture. Keep searching and watching what you want to explore and learn!

During Covid I decided I really wanted to work with watercolors. I began doing little 3 inch squares at first. I watched a lot of YouTube videos which was huge. Took some online classes too! Today, four years later, I have sold a few of my abstracts and am opening up my own Etsy shop soon! At 71, it is a joy to discover new things that peak my interest.
Painting has become very much a part of my ongoing therapy for complex PTSD. When I am painting, I am at ease, relaxed, not thinking about a thing but the way the colors move. Go for it!

@paulalina oh, me too. I do abstracts with watercolors, acrylics, and alcohol inks. I started 5 years ago when I was 71.

Would you minding posting one here, or telling us where we can see them!

I am not an artist by any way shape or form but, I do find art to be fascinating and wish my wife would get back into it.
Anyway, have you tried scratch art? We purchased a piece from our friend. She did it from a photo I sent her of my parents dog. We gave it to them for an anniversary gift and they absolutely love it.
