Exemestane and extreme fatigue

Posted by stephied @stephied, May 7 8:00pm

Hello. I am new here. I had a mastectomy in January 2016. 4.5 cm tumor with 4 positive nodes. The tumor tested 100% for hormone receptors. Had chemo and rads and and oophorectomy in December 2016. I will be taking Exemestane until October 2026. I am so tired all of the time and it’s getting worse. Anyone else experience this? TIA

I have been on Exemestane for 2 years now and I am tired every single day. I 'm not good with taking naps so I just keep pushing forward.

I have finally relented and started taking naps on some days. I am not a good napper so I have to nap only when I am really tired. I put on my pj’s and get into bed, and set an alarm. This helps my brain relax, so I can rest.i have found that I feel better moving through the rest of the day if I take even a short nap.
I don’t nap every day because frankly I just can’t afford the time, but because of this I notice how different I feel on those days.
What keeps you from being a good napper?

I really don't know. Have never been a good sleeper. I guess maybe too much on my mind.

Hi! I'm new to this site. I had a bilateral mastectomy. I was diagnosed with Pagets disease of one breast. Had the other removed prophylactic. DCIS in situ. Nodes were clear .
Given this, why should I take arastrozole?

Hi! There doesn't seem to be much info about Paget's of the breast . I had a bilateral masectomy, one with Paget's and the other removed prophylactic. DCIS, nodes were clear.
I'm not convinced I want to take anastrozole. Too many side effects and does it outweigh any benefits. I'm 72 cancer free.
Any enlightenment on this topic?

I always like to encourage people to talk to your doctor about this. I took it for years and the side effects were manageable. Mostly related to the new lack of estrogen.
Many, thousands of women take this drug with very manageable side effects, but they are usually not the people posting here looking for support.
I would decide with my doctor if it makes sense, and not refuse to even try it based on someone else’s experience. You can always quit taking it if it does not continue to make sense to you, because this is your journey.😃
Have you met with medical oncology yet?

Thank you for responding. When I received my diagnosis of Pagets disease of the breast I was stunned of how few cases the breast surgeon had seen. My oncologist said I was one of 5 cases she's seen for Pagets.
She explained I could experience hot flashes and night sweats. Never had either during or after menopause. OK I can manage that BUT it's the other side effects I'm concerned about. I have controlled HBP, cholesterol and taking Eliquis (developed post surgical blood clot in arm pit) it's gone now. I don't want to escalate any of these conditions.
I want to have a good quality of life and not deal with side effects of anastrozole.

I honestly have no idea most of the time which of my treatments cause which of the many side effects I have but I am completely exhausted all the time. I don't want to even get out of bed and I mostly just lay down all day, every day. When I try to get myself to do things, I just end up in more pain, so I figure why fight the urge to just lay around. I am on exemestane, abemaciclib, lupron, pain meds, nerve pain meds, bisphosphonates. Constant brain fog and tiredness and am told it's too risky to try stopping any of the treatments, this is the rest of my "life".

Yes, today is one of those days....draggin ***. It has been 2 years and it has not gotten better. I have resolved to accepting that Aromasin is keeping me alive, it is price I am going to have to pay. Tired is my middle name.
