Hi W, I am just finishing a year of the big 3. I have been on them for one year , daily doses of 250 azythro, 400 rib and 1200 Ethambutol. Based on my reading here, it seems there is a large range of
Doses and frequencies that ID dr recommend . Not
One set Protocol. I don’t know why…. Maybe research has not discovered the magic numbers??? The drs weren’t much help with side effects. They minimised or ignored them , their goal was keeping me on meds for a year to wipe
Out the MAC. It seems
To have accomplished that but I had to find my own optimal way to administer meds. For me , nite time worked best. I don’t know if there is any magic to the timing or the frequency, but this blog was the best support and f/b to get thru this treatment. So in 2 weeks I get to stop the meds. Yay! The opacities have cleared, still some
Scarring from 8 months straight of Pnuemo but
Voila! I have been cleared. Fingers crossed
For the future.

Yes, fingers crossed! Did you take all of the meds at night? My doc says Azithro should be taken with food, and then rifampin has to be taken on an empty stomach, and it doesn't matter, it seems with ethambutol. How did you do this all in the evening? Would love to find a workable schedule; figuring out how to do this without severely interrupting my life is going to be a challenge. I teach horsemanship, still ride, occasionally still play pickleball, go to the pottery studio, etc.

Congratulations 🙌
I do hope you can stay clear! All doctors think differently! I understood there are guidelines worldwide. 3 x pw no cavities, 7 days pw if cavities exist! Not so apparently. One doc said aggressive treatment 7 x pw required. Then I get a different doc she said guidelines 3 x pw. So I agreed to start meds 3 x.
I saw another doc as in the public system I could never see the same doctor, he said he would have had me on everyday meds. No wonder we are so confused!!!!!!
However at 4 months I had my very first negative sputum so for that reason I am left on 3 x pw. As it is working and thank goodness for that I could not cope with taking meds everyday. Doc also said those guidelines are in USA only! Conflicting advice 🥴

Wow. I’m so happy for you and so good to hear a success story. I am getting ready to start and terrified.
