New to Osteoporosis, Start here! 2025 World Congress on Osteoporosis

Posted by Michael Lavacot @michaellavacot, 6 days ago

Hello Mayo Clinic folks,

I just wanted to let you know that I posted an updated "New to Osteoporosis" presentation https://youtu.be/OVRiiyHXeh8 with updates from the 2025 World Congress on Osteoporosis that just happened in April. There were a few new trials and studies in the last year that were significant. I also updated my "Taking Prolia for Osteoporosis" training as well https://youtu.be/hnj1tFUAK3M .

If you don't know, I started treatment for osteoporosis two and a half years ago and have been doing research ever since. So this is me trying to help others based on my learnings from vast amount of trainings and studies. I do not get paid for anything here.

As always, your feedback and questions are welcome. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi @zhaner - Yes, this year there were a few presentations on diet and protein. The key takeaway was Mediterranean diet and get sufficient protein in your diet. The presenter on Protein made the argument that it was more important than ensuring proper calcium levels, but I would focus on both 🙂

Here is a link to the 2024 study "Mediterranean Diet and Risk of Hip Fracture" https://doi.org/10.1093/nutrit/nuae141

BTW, not sure if you consider taking bio identical estrogen (estradiol, the same stuff your body used to produce) as big pharma, but it's great for bones.

Thanks! I do take bio identicals and follow a keto diet (so high protein) — i can’t do all those beans that the mediterranean diet likes 😂. Finding a solution for bone health is not easy!
