Im 32 yrs old, 5 yrs pain from nTOS. Took about 3 yrs to get diagnosed. Tried everything w/o relief. Right TOS surgery has helped but still have issues 2 yrs later, gets better very slowly. Just had left side done. When you're in pain for so long w/o relief and tried everything, I wanted to get surgery! I believe it will get better it just takes a long time because the nerves get really angry for a while after surgery. But getting rid of the compression is supposed to help. Make sure you get a good surgeon. The thoracic outlet syndrome Outreach website has lists of recommended surgeons. You have to have a surgeon that knows what they're doing and has experience. I think my nerves are so angry still on the right side because I had inexperienced surgeon. Got a very experienced surgeon for the left side. Really affects your life though. Still adjusting, voice to text on phone and for computer typing. Still trying to get the ability to write back on my right side. Couldn't Write anymore before surgery, but it's slowly coming back. I think surgery is worth it if you get an experienced surgeon. Good luck!

* I meant the TOS really affects your life, not the surgery. I will say though it takes a long time to recover from the surgery. Takes a while to heal, but then a very long time for the nerves to heal if you have had a lot of damage
