What are the pros/cons of HIFU and TULSA-PRO treatments?
I have Pca Gleason 3+4 in left medial apex, plus a couple atypical spots. Size of prostate is 56cc. My surgeon raised the idea of looking at focal treatments as an option. I haven't seen much discussion on the support group about the focal treatment options. Maybe there's another site? What is the best way to get informed about the options, side effects and recurrence rates? So far I'm focused on HIFU or TULSA-PRO but I'm not sure what makes one preferred over the other? Any advice? Thanks!

I am in the same arena. HIFU or TULSA? I am a good candidate for both and after hours of research and 3 consults, I decided that I like the risk and rational for TULSA. I also found some clinical data with both compared PRO/CONs results. The procedures are 'cousins' in terms of the type or treatment with different approaches. TULSA treats the prostate from inside/middle of prostate, using real-time MRI data, through the urethra straight to the 2 aggressive cores. HIFU uses a same treatment except through you anus and using an MRI taken in the past, heats the cancer cells through the bladder. I found a clinical report that had both HIFU and TULSA results with TULSA having fewer side-effects. I believe that I may have a Active Surveillance option since I am just borderline 3/4. Decision date is Labor Day for AS or TULSA. based on few more second opinions. Good Luck
Thx for the note. I’m in the TULSA PRO camp because of the MRI surveillance during the procedure. Good luck on your research!
