Total Ankle Replacement

Posted by user_ch3aef5aa @user_ch3aef5aa, Jan 4, 2018

I am six weeks post surgery with a Total Ankle Replacement. I would like to hear about what to expect going forward, your type of prosthesis and how you are managing beginning to walk again.

Surgery was yesterday. I stayed the night because I was the last one of teh day and was still in recovery at 11PM and we live 2 hours from the city. Got home a few hours ago and just sitting in bed with my foot up. Leg is still numb but it is starting to wear off.

I have arthritis in both ankles following knee replacements. Wishing you good luck and hope you will report back with your healing journey.

What do you write? My wife is a writer and my recovery plan is to finish my book.

Lots of good info on Facebook group. I’m going to Scottsdale for my initial consultation with Dr. Kyle soon.
I’ve heard keep ice behind the knee and elevate.
Good luck.

Good advice. I have been elevating the whole time. Besides the pain the biggest issue is the constipation. Took some Miralax and that helped.
I don't do social media but I probably should for this.

This is social media, lots of answers on the bigger platforms. Medical practitioners, sports people. Im not a fan of the bs but the tar groups focused on ankle replacement are a great source.
And I’m really trying to make the best decision about my ankle.

We could split hairs on what is and what isn't social media but this isn't the time or place.

The important thing is that you feel like your getting the best information to make the best decision for you and your family. There has been a significant impact on my family.

If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. I am happy to share why I went through with it, how and why I chose HSS in NYC, how I am recovering or anything else related to the TAR.

I just assumed you went to the Mayo somewhere. I’m going to the Mayo in Scottsdale.
I’m interested in how you do . HHS is one of the best I hear.
Which implant did they use? Also seems recovery times differ greatly.

HSS is where I got my first surgery. Totally messed it up. I am ruined for life. And they do not want to anything to do with you once they mess you up. In addition my surgeon did not post any of my symptoms like swelling. Pain due to nickel and incorrect size of implant. on patient portal.
