Was that necessary?

I'll keep the subject simple. And don't judge grammar and all that, my brain is fish food at the moment.

I've been trying to figure out for six months why I keep getting sick.
I saw my dr last week to do another test and got results, now needing another test.
As I went to schedule, the receptionist was trying to book with a different doctor.
I said, can't I just see my dr. ..?
Apparently Friday is their last day and I was a little dumbfounded.
No one, not even the dr said one word. Super confused.
Of course the receptionist said she didn't know a thing about it. But then I asked where they were going. Oh a little closer to where they live, she replied.

How hard is it to tell someone you're leaving their current practice? Especially when Im in the middle of this mystery.
People move, whatever, not offended by that at all, just the fact that I was blindsided.

Truly, is this how it is now?
Nothing like that slap in the face to make you feel like just a time slot....

Simply, we used to live in a time of civility, empathy, concern, and accountability.
Now it's whatever you can get away with, take the money and run.
Not to be political because this goes for all sides, but maybe the Clinton years set a new tone for the country: wealth from deception with no consequences for criminality, just investigations. The Boy Scouts? The Church? 2008 crash too big to fail.
Don't take it personally, it's the (post modern) times we are living in. Let's continue being civil and caring.🙏

Exactly. Being civil, decent. Medicine has changed so much over the years. It's makes it more difficult in every aspect when there is little choice, in my situation. The providers I see mostly don't appreciate how long of a drive it takes to even see them. That's money, time and energy I feel is ill spent when providers don't invest a little time. Heaven forbid you ask a question or two, take more than five minutes.

It's corporate medicine. Treating the bottom line , not the patient. Even my friend, the prominent ENT
has a difficult time accessing care for himself and his family.

Hi JanuaryJane,
I'm so sorry this happened to you; especially when you were trying with your doctor to figure out what was happening with your body! That's awful! It could be your doctor had some problem that he didn't feel comfortable communicating to his patients. Years ago, I had the nicest doctor for my family. He was so good at diagnosing us. We really liked him! Then one day we showed up for an appointment and they were moving furniture out of his office and the doctor was no where around! We were never informed of this! We were literally in shock! They wouldn't tell us why they were moving the furniture out or to where. I found out some time later from a friend who worked with the doctor that he was an alcoholic and was forced to give up his career. You would have never known that. He never appeared intoxicated at any appointments.
I hope you find another really good doctor who can figure out what is going on with your body. Do a lot of research first.

My oncologist left the practice (surprise!), returned one year later, then left again (no surprise). It gets old.

Yes I understand to a certain point some receptionists may not be able to say anything. But Im just confused why they have the power to schedule, but be able to leave someone high and dry. It's unprofessional to say in the least.
Im not sure, at this point I feel done with this office. I have one last appointment with them and have thought about bringing it up but Im torn.
I try to communicate but I just can't stand not being honest. A waste of my time, nothing will be done about it anyway.

@januaryjane If you want to communicate your frustration to this medical practice here is what I suggest. Ask who the practice manager is. The practice manager is often an RN and this is the person who handles and oversees the clinical side of the practice. My husband got nowhere trying to find a different medical provider within a very large practice (he did not feel confident with the assigned provider) so finally he spoke with the practice manager. This worked. You can ask the practice manager all kinds of questions about how the medical practice is run and let the person know how this problem affects you, the patient. Then, if you have already decided to go elsewhere you can let the practice manager know this too.

If you decide to do this I hope you will be listened to. At least you will know that your frustration was communicated to the person that can actually make changes in how patients are kept informed.

In the meantime, have you already started to look for a different doctor?

I know it's true.
Just sad.

But it's hard to keep trudging through when I deal with chronic stuff.
Oh..You're not dying? You're good!

@januaryjane Crazy, I know, but this just happened to me. My PT left the clinic after many years of treating me. Even though he gave his employers 30 days notice, his contract with them did not allow him to tell his patients or referring docs until 10 days before his departure. Neither is his staff is allowed to tell any of us where he is going. . I will try his senior partner, and if that fails, use my detective skills to track him down.

Such is the world of medi-business.
