My Dr also recommended Benefiber 2x a day does help for a 2-3 days then I have to take one ducolax and one Colace to get things started again. This is a result of long covid for me that Ihad a year ago. Wish there was a end zone result

I just started NAC (N-acetylcysteine for severe GI issues that cropped up in the last month that caused me to lose about 8-10 pounds in a three week period. I had abdominal pain, nausea, lack of appetite, mostly severe constipation that would sometimes alternate with very loose BMs.

Next day after taking a 500 mg dose of NAC I had a sort of painful and intense gut purge, and then immediately started to feel better. I have now been on it for five days at 500 mg, and I’m doing so much better.

FYI NAC is available as an otc supplement (Thorne brand is very highly reputable), but it’s definitely a potent compound that can have side effects and drug interactions, so check with your doctor first. I chose to use it for my GI issues because it is known to be able to break down bacterial biofilms in the gut, but it is the precursor to glutathione; which is our body’s natural antioxidant, and it has a lot of other beneficial effects like reducing cytokines and inflammation. Good luck!
