@payette78 I think the logic is that we're exhaling (sometimes coughing unexpectedly) into the mouthpiece, so to avoid the possibility of deeply breathing in bacteria or anything else you've exhaled, it's better to avoid breathing in through the mouthpiece. It's also not doing anything as far as airway clearance goes. As you mentioned, it's the exhale that's important.
