How many years were you on fosomax? If I understand correctly 5 yr. Is the maximum time recommended to be on this medication. Is it the first Osteoporosis drug you have used? What has he recommended as the follow up drug and is he talking to you about a plan for t
A drug sequencing that will give you the best outcomes? If I understand correctly a bisphosphonate as a first drug followed by a bone builder like tymlos, forteo or evenity may inhibit to a degree the positive changes of a bone builder. Good luck. Do the research. We must advocate for ourselves and not take a passive role.

I was on for just over 5 years. The reason it was over 5 years is because I delayed my follow up appt with my PCP and didn't want to stop it until I saw her.

It was the first osteoporosis drug I used. I fractured T8 one month after my 5th anniversary on it but I didn't know it at the time (attributed it to a muscle pull). In fact, I even stopped Fosamax after seeing my PCP and still didn't know I had a fracture at the time. A month later I went back to her for a referral for physical therapy because my back pain hadn't subsided. She ordered an xray which revealed the fracture.

I was referred to a rheumatologist who started me on Tymlos. I tolerated it OK (had some side effects) but my insurance company revoked my pre-authorization after 4 months.

I switched to teraparatide but intolerable side effects so I stopped taking it. I sought a referral to a Stanford bone specialist and saw her in April. She started me on Evenity and I am doing great on that - no side effects.

I am unsure if the five years of Fosamax will blunt the Evenity but I am hopeful it may help.
