Nervous about upcoming mammogram: treated breast is still sore
At the end of July, I’ll be getting a mammogram for the first time since having my breast cancer treated. The treated breast is very sore and tender, and I’m just wondering if an ultrasound is just as accurate as a mammogram at detecting cancer because I’m not sure I will be able to handle the pain of a mammogram.

I get it. I can't answer your question about an ultrasound. My breast is still sore and it has been six years. Please try. It will go fast...good luck
Mine was done in 2015, and my breast is still sore. I have been getting yearly mammograms each year since. Actually the mammograms are not as bothersome as you would think.
I had the exact same concerns when I had my first post-surgery mammogram w/contrast 6 months after treatment. I shared my concerns with the radiation technicians and they were very understanding and careful with me. It wasn’t pleasant (are they ever?) but I knew it was important to do and it was over pretty quickly. An ice pack will help a great deal when you get back home.
I usually take Tylenol before a mammogram.
Mine is coming up on 16 June a nd I'm dreading it but also concerned about large tender mass at site of operation. So good idea to take pain meds in advance.
Hi
My 1st post treatment mammo was last Oct 2024. I also was really nervous. It really went well and the tech was so good . Surprisingly it didn't hurt at all.
I have the same concern. My first mammogram after surgery and radiation will be in August. Please come back and tell us how it goes for you.
