Have any of you heard of Calmare Scrambler Therapy?

Posted by felicelinda @felicelinda, Sep 21, 2024

Have any of you gone to doctors for Scrambler Therapy? It is a special therapy for neuropathy that was written about (positively) by Johns Hopkins and Mayo Clinic doctors. Many people have been helped by it….Unfortunately not covered by health insurance.

Sometimes I have to wonder exactly how may people get relief from these treatments. Scrambler: 82% success rate, but I have read that so many don't. SCS: 70-80% success rate. I have spoken to many who have had no success. Pain pump: success rate 94%. I had one implanted two years ago. Still no help. Honestly, doesn't that make you pause?

When you say pain pump are you referring to a spinal stimulator?

No. Two completely different items. SCS sends electrical impulses to an implanted electrode/paddle in the intrathecal space. Scrambler uses electrodes that are attached to various spots on your skin. Electrical impulses are sent to the electrodes which are designed to turn pain signals into non-pain signals.

I was turned down by the Mayo Clinic for Scrambler Therapy due to their demand for service. I found a provider in Wisconsin that was a certified provider and signed up for a 10 treatment program. The first three sessions seemed to help somewhat, but I had no relief from the following 4 sessions. The practitioner and I agreed to terminate at that point. He told me that he had less success with patients that had undergone chemotherapy, but claimed his overall success rate was over
70 %. Although he suggested that I return for a “booster” treatment, after 6 months I have chosen not to

I had pretty much the same experience in New Jersey. Signed up for two weeks of treatments, all out-of-pocket. Like you, I thought I noticed a little improvement after two sessions(probably the placebo effect). After four sessions, it became clear that I had no improvement. At that point we agreed to halt treatments. It's amazing that the 70-80% success rate, yet most people I hear from had no success. Very interesting.

All. I found out about scramble therapy here on Mayo Clinic site. Further research took me to a wonderful small clinic in New Jersey. That does the technique and nothing else. It’s a minimum of 10 sessions and I signed up for all 10 bottom line is you have to at least complete all of them if you really want to see results I have very severe trigeminal nerve pain and came close to overdosing on my steroid medication’s scramble therapy as completely saved my life since completing the 10 sessions, I have not had a single episode of nerve pain. I don’t know how it affects everybody else, but it was very successful for me and if you live in the New York New Jersey area, let me know and I will send you information.. I worked with a Dr. Cooney who is terrific He had lots of patients coming from all over the world…

@duchess926 I have spent the last three years trying to get into Mayo Clinic. My heart doctor got involved and gave me another referral, and I waited and I waited and I waited and finally decided I would contact Cleveland Clinic, who took me and accepted me within the day.. He said I had peripheral idiopathic neuropathy and stop taking all of the horrible pain pills that we are given which I had refused to take anyway. They made me so much worse and it was destroying my body so I’ve been fighting through the pain for three years. Right after I accepted the appointment to Cleveland Clinic, the very next day Mayo called and offered me an appointment. I asked them if I could have a couple of minutes or a day to make a decision as to whether to cancel Cleveland Clinic. They told me “no”. Give me your answer right now and if you don’t say “yes”, you start all over again. I didn’t like that answer so I went forward to go to Cleveland Clinic. Duringthe last year, I tried to come back in again at Mayo and they told me they would have an answer within seven days. There was no answer for months until I got a letter about a week ago saying “ no” we can’t take you”. The doctors did not accept you all of a sudden though they accepted me the first time. I don’t think I’ll try a third time because I don’t the system works.

@duchess926 I went to Dr. Cooney's office for Scrambler Therapy back in March. I did five sessions with no results. Dr. Cooney explained that if I have no positive results after five visits, there was no point continuing. So, Scrambler did not work for me. I had nerve damage due to a ski fall in 2016. Glad it worked for you.

@hookedongolf2004 Look up website for calmaretherapynj.com....I worked with Dr.
Jay Cooney....I don't know where you live but Dr. Cooney and clinic are located in Clifton, N.J.

Since I live in NYC, I took a car service for the treatment. It's 10 sessions...one a day.
Treatment itself is only about 35 minutes long...

I made it to Paris after my 10 treatments and about two week later after I returned, I
had one incident of pain...I then went back for 3 "booster" treatments and since then have
been pain free.

I also suffer from Hypnic Headaches, and thru my Neurologist have been doing the 31 Botox shots every three months to be rid of head pain. I've had my second round of Botox and so far
that is also working...I will do anything to be medication free.....

@duchess926 Tnank you for the helpful information. My husband and I live a little over an hour away from a highly recommended calmare scrambler provider. Would driving back and forth each day in the car have any negative results after doing the therapy (i.e. sitting in the car for that length of time?). How long did it take you to get to Clifton from N.Y.C. each day? Thanks so much!

@flaherty2185
I also tried the scrambler therapy. After 6 sessions of no improvement they told
me not to continue, because by the 5th session I should have noticed some improvement
