Steroids in inhalers with fluticisone are absorbed by the body. I was doing a long prednisone taper(polymyalgia rheumatica) and was put on Arnuity( fluticisone) 200mcg for my asthma and my former moon face returned.(!). We lowered the dose to 100mcg and I feel it: fatigue and weakness with the reduction. Symbicort/Breyna (budesonide) is less absorbed but needs a 2x day dosing. I am also using strontium citrate with my primary doc- geriatrician and endocrinologist approval.

Yes, the allergy nurse mentioned, when I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2016, that steroid inhalers “strip your bones.” The doctor stuck to the party line, saying steroid inhalers don’t affect bones. I have just started Montelukast, in an effort to halve my inhalers. Allergy shots, as well.
