Thank you for your insight. I have been in this for almost three years now and I have found myself not as panic striken as before and wondering why. I am still trying to plan trips and travel and go places that we have enjoyed but the effort to do so is getting to be harder than the pleasure those activities produce and our life seems to be slowing down. My husband is 82 and I am 74, in not great health so I am now seeing the end of our lives and realize I want to take the years slower with calm instead of breakneck fun. I miss what was, but am finally starting to enjoy where we are in life. I am thankful for that before the real hardships start

It seems we go through phases and I’m finding myself better able to cope with my 82 year old husband’s dementia at age 71. We started this journey almost 4 years ago and I am so grateful the progression has been slow as the beginning was quite shocking. Constantly adjusting has finally become day to day recognition of changes and identifying ways to manage them with love and respect for the man I married 35 years ago. I miss our travel and sometimes feel housebound, but like many have noted, it’s easier to provide the comfort needed by being home. I am grateful for the time we have and try to stay focused on the present rather than dwell on what may come and when. I do think it’s stages of grief we are dealing with and accepting what we cannot change helps us focus on the time we have left. Best to all of on your own journeys.
