@boolani It might help if you provide a little detail, such as whether you sought medical care to determine whether anything was fractured, your age range and general health, and how long ago this happened.
All that said, I'm past 70, took a slip and hard fall on concrete at the end of September, landing on a hip that has a ceramic replacement joint. Wow, it hurt.
First I had an x-ray to be sure neither my hip nor the implant fractured. I had a hard hematoma, about the size of a softball on my outer thigh. It was so large you could see the profile through my yoga pants! The discoloration began right at the hip socket and eventually extended past my knee.
On the advice of the Urgent Care CNP and my PT, I iced it regularly for several days, massaging around and over the lump several times a day. It took 4-5 weeks for the pain to go away, 6 weeks for the hematoma to dissolve to the point that the lump wasn't visible, and just over 3 months for all of the bruising to disappear. And that was even though I used arnica gel on it every day to help break up the blood under the skin, which Idofor all bruises.
Let us know if you confirmed no fractures and how you are doing.
Hi Sue Many thanks for your prompt attention. I am 73 and fell inside the house while playing with my grandchild. I became very anxious and rushed to ER and luckily no fractures. I was diagnosed with Hematoma. I have been taking rest and applying ice. Just curious how soon I will recuperate fully. Regards
