Happy to find someone else on here taking sildenafil which I just started. Have you had any side effects from the med? Has it helped you being less out of breath?

I am 81 and I have been diagnosed by two echos six months apart. Both said “mild” pressure (46 and 41). Three cardiologists said I did not need a right heart cath procedure since pressure is mild but the last one agreed to give me a trial on the sildenafil to see if it helps my shortness of breath issue. (Insurance won’t pay for it without the procedure!).

I have been very scared about this diagnosis because everything I read says early treatment is important so I kind of pressed for the medication. The pulmonologist I first saw about the echo findings ordered oxygen which I did NOT need and sent back (o2 is always in the 90’s when on the treadmill). He also ordered a RHC procedure but acted like it was optimal. It was subsequently cancelled so didn’t get it. It was going to be a couple months after my ablation and I wanted to recover well from that first.

Optional

No side effects yet from sildenafil.
I don't have too much trouble with shortness of breath - unless walking uphill or too fast. Mine mild also - much lower numbers result from righ heart cath.
Surprised your pulmonary doc prescribed oxygen!
You are right - aggressive early rx very important.
I also had sleep study as part of eval and have mild sleep apnea - now on CPAP. Ugh!
