The Decipher test can be done prior to surgery or after. The Decipher test when having radiation is done prior to treatments. The Decipher score gives your urologist and R/O a number the is more precise diagnosis of your cancer risk level.
Decipher test can help your medical providers give options on treatments. In my case my Gleason score of 7 (given an intermediate risk) was radiation and hormone. My Decipher came back low risk and my treatment changed to just radiation only.
It would have been beneficial for you to have that Decipher test done prior to your surgery. Most of the time the tissue taken for biopsies is large enough for Decipher to be done and no need to have another biopssy. That is how mine were done.
When you have surgery I am reading that surgeons now has access to your prostate and all areas of it to take another biopsy and get a Decipher score not just the ones at biopsies. If your cancer was still inside prostate this would be beneficial and confirm risk level. When it is known by other test your prostate cancer has spread out side your prostate the Decipher test is not valuable as your tests revealed already metasised and you would have been diagnosed with high risk.
I hoped this helped. It was confusing to me when I first got prostate cancer. I was not on MCC at that time. I began hearing Gleason Score, PSMA, Bone Scans, Decipher test, etc. and was overwhelming. My R/Os did their best to explain but it can be overwhelming.
I did not have RP just radiation but did have the Decipher test, PMSA, bone scan done after biopsies taken and prior to final diagnosis and treatment options given to me.
Thanks. I have not had any treatment yet so I’d have to have another biopsy for a Decipher test. I was ignorant and my urologist never mentioned it. With your Gleason 7 (favorable. Or unfavorable?), it made a difference. I have a clear PSMA, Gleason 8, and will do radiation. So I don't’ think it makes any difference to me?
