Lupron and Zytiga side effects
In July we learned my husband has BCR 1 year post prostatectomy. Imaging confirmed 2 small tumors in the prostate bed. We're so surprised given great surgical outcome; cancer contained and surgical margins clear. But, here we are.
Decision to do 18-24 months Lupron injections along with Zytiga/prednisone. First injection was 3 1/2 weeks ago with Zytiga starting a few days later. Until yesterday he was side effect free, none. Then awake all night the last 2 nights. Freezing cold, then hot. Then joint pain. Slept all day yesterday. Now still incredibly tired and sleeping again. The nurses said the symptoms often kick in at the 1 month mark. Question, do these last the entire time on the medication? Or will they diminish? In the next week or so he'll start 20 days of radiation which we know will make him tired. He's not sure he can do this. The good thing is the PSA done on Monday dropped to 0.04 from .25 a month ago. Thanks for any advice.

I have been on lupron for a year and now have NO desire for sex! HELP!!!!
From my perspective seeing it as a problem might lead to frustration and anger. Perhaps you might just accept it as part of the reality you are living. To not accept it is to deny reality..,and thus to deny yourself…
And how might you feel about the situation?
It is fine with me. We have had a wonerful life together and I wouldn’t ever be upset with him for something he has no control over.

1 ReactionMy husband got his third firgamon injection last week and is always sore for a few days but powers through...he chose firmagon because it's not supposed to raise the testosterone first like lupron and then plummet. He was supposed to just get one firmagon shot then lupron after that but chose to keep going with the firmagon shots, though it's monthly shots.... We'll see how long it lasts, 10 days ago he started the zytiga and Prednisone and hasn't really had any symptoms, it's all the same.. got flashes, night sweats, crying easily...but he works out every day and eats perfectly! Doctor said he's doing extremely well! Him and I can have hot flashes and night sweats together and cry over sappy songs or movies! No sex.... But I'd rather have a live husband and no sex than a dead husband and still no sex.

1 ReactionThere is no reason for him to continue with those uncomfortable Firmagon shots. He could switch to orgovyx and just take one pill a day, Or get a three month Lupron shot. I had Lupron shots for seven years and at the worst it was slightly sore where the injection was put in for a few hours. Most of the time I never noticed it at all. I got the six month shot for six of those seven years. There is no chance of a testosterone spike since you’ve already been on Firmagon.
You need to be proactive. You can tell your doctor what you would like and not just accept what he does. He likes you to come in monthly for a Firmagon shot because he gets to bill monthly for it, Unless you say no, that will continue.
