Chiropractic adjustments

Is it possible chiropratic adjustments could worsen perphial neuropathy?

At the age of 66 I've never seen a chiropractor, and I won't let one get their hands on me. In my opinion, I can't see your neuropathy improving after seeing one.

Hello,
I agree that chiropractors can cause more damage than healing. They overdo what needs to be done and aggravate things for patients. There's another treatment which may be a bit better and it is called Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment/Therapy (OMT) and performed by doctors who have DO instead of MD after their names.
Take care and have a serene weekend,

I am not accusing Chiropractors are causing problems for those of us with neuropathy. I am simply asking if their treatments might add to neuropathy.

I have occasional issues with my lumbar discs and i get excellent treatment from my Chiroprator who is very professional.
I am asking if there is a risk from these adjustments, and the same for Osteopaths, which I have used before but with less effectiveness.

@johnnysneakers
I think it is possible if the adjustment pinches/injures nerves.

I am not a big fan of chiropractors. You may want to see an orthopedic spine specialist and neurologist for testing to see if you have compressed spinal cord/nerve roots, or nerve injuries impacting communications to upper/lower limbs.

Dear @johnnysneakers
A few people like being a chiropractic & others hate or not used one. Adjustment for this? I will say . I’ve used this for decades ago and my wife have used this too. They moved part of your back. Does it work? They know of our bodies. And moved on you or in you. Some that fine; others need a suryn —- sorry, I lose the names in my TBI (brain-injury) —- from a doctor.
Thx,

Agreed Greg. 3 weeks ago one of my lower lubar discs gave me severe pain. I am very fotunate to a have a very renowed chiro.
My first encounter with a chiro was disheartening. He was only interested in money and was very unprofessional.

Hello again,
Any medical practitioner providing services with conscience, care and compassion will do well for patients. I had a chiropractor years ago working on my neck and was overpowering the treatments that almost paralysed me. I am not accusing any medical provider. I am just saying they need to really care to provide good and sound treatment.
Take care and best wishes,
gus

May I ask what your consumption of alcohol was/is? How did your PN manifest? I drink daily in the realm of 2-3 drinks a day in the evening for many, many years. I've been told that you don't necessarily have to be an alcoholic for it to have a toxic affect in the long run. I enjoy my Happy Hour ritual with my husband and since my neuropathy symptoms seem to be relatively mild, I'm not motivated to quit.
About two years ago I started feeling that my sock was wadded up in my shoe, right foot. I was convinced that it was Morton's neuroma. But the sensation progressed to both feet and eventually up my calves. I had a neurology consult and EMG study (within normal limits). Due to an insurance change, I never went any further in terms of ruling out small fiber. My PCP convinced me to take 300 mg Gabapentin three times a day and to try to cut down.
I can still manage a three mile walk but I do believe that's my limit and little by little the "uncomfortable" sensations - numbness & tingling - are bordering on painful during the night. Once I get up and moving I don't think too much about discomfort.
I'd love to hear your story. It "might" be inspiring in terms of my plan of care.

Some chiropractors are now certified in Neuropathy. There are about 50 offices nationwide. I have been treated for almost two years with ReBuilder (Electric Stimulation), Anodyne (Infrared light) and Blueprint Supplements (VasoPro and Greensberry). Twice daily home treatments for all three. I rarely feel the horrible burning, stabbing or tingling; however, if I stand over an hour, my feet feel heavy and I have some numbness. It’s expensive but worth it to me to be pain free most of the time and to sleep through the night.
