Has anyone had a failed spinal fusion? What can be done?
I am almost 6-months post-op from having had a Lumber spinal fusion (L3-4-5). I am experiencing a lot of pain in my spine and across my lower back. I'm fearful that I may have the signs of a failed spinal fusion. I would like to hear from those who may have experienced this.

Found a compression fracture L2
@jennirob01 Thank you I’m recovering slowly, being allergic to the tape or staples isn’t helping with the itching. It has took about 95% of the pain away except for the incisions and where the battery is under my skin.
Catscan showed Compression fracture L2. What else???
I am praying for full comfort while you heal! Rest and be easy.
@dwill2152 Oh, this isn't good news. My elderly mom who has severe osteoporosis had a compression fracture in her back. Because of the osteoporosis, she was not a candidate for the bone cement procedure, kyphoplasty, and she had a back brace instead. She didn't heal perfectly straight, but with an added 43 degree bend because she wasn't good at following directions.
What has your doctor advised for your fracture?
No doctor follow up yet. Just read the report on portal. I already lean forward from misaligned fusion L4, L5l Sacrum.
Thank you. Will definitely ask.
Haven't seen dr yet. Read on portal. Do not have osteoporosis but may have osteopena from fusion. I dug out my back brace from previous surgery and started wearing it yesterday.
I have had two failed back surgeries the first was when the hospital in Massachusetts installed the Ray Cages, after a two year wait all while getting pain meds and epidural injections i was told by another spine doctor obviously a failed back surgery . Then I decided to go with this new spine doctor for him to correct this problem so my first question was how and his answer was I won't know what i am going to do until I get into the L-5 S-1 section of your spine well after a 7 hr. Surgery is awoken with 2 long rods going up my spine and running across my spine. The amount of pain i was in after the first surgery was about a 3 on the pain scale right after my first ever back surgery this pain just kept on growing my legs had a burning type sensation this was treated with the drug Lyrica and painkillers from 97-2001 .After my second surgery I awoken feeling like I had been shot about a half dozen times my body couldn't move for 48 hrs because of the very high level of pain so I told my wife everytime that green light goes on push the button to deliver my pain medication that's how bad the pain was ,next I would need to start walking before I could go home also I had to be able to climb three flights of stairs because I have three flights of stairs at home. Next I would need roughly 9 months of physical therapy meanwhile my body i could no longer get out of bed without climbing my dresser i would need to open a dresser drawer until I was standing tall something with the toilet i would need to climb the wall. All this started at 42 years of age my second surgery i was 45 and I would never work again i had these two surgeries so I could walk without crutches but I traded the crutches for a caine something I am still walking with today 10 years later I started getting all kinds of pain in my neck area just above my shoulders after a Cat Scan it shows 4 ruptured disc one herniated disc this time no doctor's would do surgery out of fear of infection. Well I started pain medication in 1996 -2025 with taking one year off in 2007 the year in 07 I spent much of it in bed because it was like a mask had been removed and my personality was no longer a happy gi lucky guy I was very bitter with my family & friends & sadly the love of my life we started dating in 1995 and now the person that had stood by me and loved me the way I was in pain and no longer could work unless I worked one day and my body kept me down 2-10 days keep in mind I installed solar and heating & AC systems well after going back on medication I was able to go back living day to day without anger and just letting my pain medication do it's thing.Sadly much hasn't changed today at 70 going on 71 I am getting trigger point injections all over my lower spine upper spine and can no longer do epidural because I am a type two diabetic with kidney disease along with Kappa Light Chain disease with Amyloidosis i am still happily unmarried and going on a cruise this summer with family and friends celebrating our 30 years of saying happy unmarried. I am not saying all back surgeries are bad I am only saying I had two failed back surgeries and left on pain medication till death unless I smoke pot or maybe have a cocktail or do other crazy drugs but when you're in my position you live a perfect life because my life has been in pain management hands along with the CDC & DEA When I look at the past 30 years of my life on this earth, others have decided a different way of life sadly. Stay positive, life is a gamble. Love Life to the fullest telling yourself each morning how much you love life. Live a good Life 👍 and if you are lucky enough to have a woman stay by your side for better or worse just be thankful 😊 ❤️ and smile.
