I had tkr followef by psrtial rebidion due yo heat snapping pain and swelling. A bit of scar tissue was found. Still having all the same issues. One year later I had total revision. Symptoms became unberable. MRI, ct scans saw nothing. Synovial fluid saw a infection. We agreeded to another partial revision. They removed tissue but saw no infection this was checked by a infectious disease doctor. I now have all the same issues but also have weird discoloration to the left of my incesion. It is hot and painful. I will add i went through 6 weeks of antibiotic therapy.

I have had three implants ,two antibiotics spacers had the knee removed for three month was put on antibiotic which did not help ,The antibiotic spacer broke had to have a new one put in ,I have a current infection and the hinged knee implant is loose in the femur bone as well as the the tibia bone and four Doctors I have seen only want to remove the leg ,Cause they say that having that many knee replacement and drilling of the bone that it can’t be done again ,I take 1000mg of kelfkex daily,I also take six hydrocodone 10-325 daily, And now something else has broken loose causing me to be unable to walk any distance without having a great deal of pain

It’s a barbaric surgery that should be outlawed- but makes a lot of $ for medical community. When I had mine done nobody EVER SAID IT COULD BE WORSE. It is no replacement- call it what it is- an artificial intervention- works sometimes but no where near the 95% success rate industry promotes.
Sorry to hear of your plight. May be you should try and live with the pain vs. possible leg amputation which would make your life most likely worse.

I haven’t had as many devices as you, but my situation is similar. My device became infected a year ago. I’ve had a spacer and now a hinge knee. Several doctors have told me that the hinge knee must come out for the infection to heal.
I am not afraid of an amputation, as other options are worse. It will take a lot of therapy, I realize, but a prosthesis will give me more mobility than I have now. I have spent the past year unable to do anything I enjoy, such as gardening, hiking, etc. I’m ready for change.

Despite what I don’t been through in the past year, I am not at all sorry that I had the TKR in 2016. I had 8 years of a very good life before this problem began. Had I not done the TKR, I would have been unable to do anything due to the pain.

If I may be so bold as to give advice, I recommend that you talk to a physician and support team about prosthetics. It might help you make a more informed decision.
Good luck!

That is so unfortunate…..I know it is very difficult decision letting them take your leg …. But yameovy has the right ideal looking at what they may be able to do again ….. I am not in your situation but I do have a failed knee replacement and a revision…. I am back at 65 flexion again ….. but I am done with surgery my dr agreed he put a knee two sizes smaller during revision…said should have never went back to 65 … I have to learn to live with the pain and stiffness, i keep developing too much scar tissue nothing is going to change that ….at least I can walk and function without a can so far lol ….. but you have to do what is right for you , get all your information so you can make an informative decision ..,. Good luck
