Has anyone had face and neck swelling after finishing chemo?

Posted by debi731 @debi731, 1 day ago

I finished 6 rounds of chemo and three days later my face and neck swelling up so bad. Went to ER and gave me more steroids (completed). Three weeks later I’m still swelling and voice raspy. Oncology said they don’t know. Endocrinology Dr said too many steroids. Has anyone else had this?

Hello @debi731 you are not alone in this. I find it disingenuous for the oncologist to say they don’t know. They probably gave you steroids as a med to help control side effects during chemo, this is standard practice when possible with certain chemo drugs.
The good news is that the kind of “chipmunk” look will pass. I had it, my husband had it, my brother had it. All of us had it from the same drug, dexamethasone was given during chemo to help with the worst if the side effects.
Did the endocrinologist assure that this would pass?

Thank you for replying. My oncologist can be dismissive. Yes my endocrinologist said it will pass and a reaction from the steroids. It’s been almost four weeks and very little improvement
