I had the same symptoms. It was from years of grinding my teeth (bruxism), mostly at night and sometimes during the day, clenching my jaws unconsciously due to tension and stress.
My left jaw got so painful one time, they sent me to an oral surgeon. I had ground my teeth so long and hard that the meniscus (cartilage) in the left jaw joint had fractured. I had lost proper rotation and translation (side to side motion and back and forth motion) in the left joint, and one of the two on the right side. The pain is gone now, but with the joints not working right, it leaves it all up to the muscles to chew, talk, everything.
That "tongue too big" thing is so annoying! But you get used to it. And yeah, my jaw muscles get so fatigued from the clenching still when I go thru stressful times, I have to force them to relax like you (mouth open).
I was told there's nothing they can really do for it. Except relax! Don't you hate hearing that?!

What tests and imaging was done? Did you have a MRI of your head and neck? Have you seen a neurologist and had a swallow test?
