I have been on Forteo for 7 months now, almost 75 years old, and have been very pleased with my decision. I had very minor symptoms the first day or so, mild headache, but nothing since. My calcium and albumin levels are good. I feel stronger and my lumbar bone fractures are healing or have completely healed by now. The big reveal will be the bone marker and bone density tests at one year.
I hesitated and researched for 6 months before making the final decision to start Forteo, but am glad I did. My endocrinologist strongly advises no cortisone injections as they lower bone density and increase risk of bone fractures . It is expensive and I don't love giving the daily injections but strong bones, no fractures, and active living are worth it.
