Any Neuropathy Recoveries?

Posted by dpmcgeejr @dpmcgeejr, 1 day ago

On November 20th my disease, VEXAS, delivered a Sepsis Shock which nearly killed me. It impacted my right leg mostly, covering it with severe blisters and leaving behind third degree like wounds. Five months later my wife and I spend an hour every other day with wound care, with several months to go.
More concerning at least for me is the neuropathy I am experiencing, caused by the massive amount of inflammation I experienced in my 30 days in the hospital, in my lower abdomen/interior of right thigh.
I have as much confidence in my Neurologist as I think one can have (they seem to be limited to diagnosis, with little or no affect on repairs/cures. He reports to me that his tests indicate that my muscles are getting messages, which bodes well for the possibility of full recovery.
I believe he believes this, as he insists on my patience since it is estimated that this healing will occur at the cliche'd pace of 1 inch per month, or in my case 14 - 18 months. I'm looking for hope from those who've positively experienced these outcomes?!?
So I am looking for affirmation that at least some of you are experiencing/have experienced, recovery gradually from your own neuropathy story.
Thanks for sharing!

God's Blessings,

Don McGee

As to your concerns identified in your training, there are levels of damage, and particular parts of the nerve which can recover as shown in this study by the NIH (and others): (https://catalog.ninds.nih.gov/sites/default/files/publications/peripheral-neuropathy.pdf).
As for your observation that I did not state the cause; I referenced my disease (VEXAS), the resulting Sepsis Shock it caused, along with blisters and third degree burns, and more specifically I mentioned that it was "caused by the massive amount of inflammation I experienced in my 30 days in the hospital, in my lower abdomen/interior of right thigh."

Respectfully it seems that not only does your comment/claim misrepresent the facts of Neuropathy, but painted a horrible, hopeless picture that included amputation! There is in fact hope, for me, you and others, potentially, depending on the kind of Neuropathy and which parts of the nerve were effected. My hope is that someone will respond who is/has recovered, at least partly!
I'm with you on Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord...He has delivered on the apparently impossible for me too often to ignore.

Blessings,

Don McGee

Thanks Don for sharing your faith in Jesus. I attend Mass nearly every day and say my rosary daily. My priest says that God can cure people. I am sorry for what you went through in the hospital. I am trying hard with diet and exercise. I need to do so because my dog Patty depends on me. I live alone and she is a blessing from the Lord so I want to take good care of her. If you have any dietary tips, I am all ears.
