Chemo and cancer recurrence

Posted by prc73 @prc73, May 9 5:02pm

Hello all. So my oncotype test came back at 49 with a distant chance of recurrence of 38percent in 9 years. My margins where clear no lymph involved. Mastectomy. My k67 was 35-45. I did have LVI on tumor. I'm ER+PR+Her2negative. Oncologist wants me to do at least 4 rounds chemo before endocrine therapy. They will also be doing scan etc for bones etc just in case. I guess I just want to hear about chemo . Did anyone have cancer come back or have distant cancer after chemo and endocrine therapy?

Oncotype 43. Lumpectomy. Margins and lymph nodes clear. k67 73%. Had 4 Chemo treatments of Cyclo and Doce. 21 Radiation. Now on Anastrazole. I am 75 and active. All percentages bring me to about 90% in 10 years according to AI. I am 2 years out and most recent tumor markers are consistently 11 and MRI negative. Frankly, I thought chemo would kill me :). All told, I think I have had the best treatment they know of and continue in remission. Oh, and tumor size was small, 11 mm. or 1.1 Cm. I try to eat my fruits and veggies, exercise 3 times a week, keep my weight with a BMI of 21. Given the tumor was small but agressive I continue to have concerns, but really think I made all the right decisions. The mental is the worst part of this disease, believe it or not. I read articles that say they are looking intently into the PTSD factor that has been largely in the background but very real. Hope this helps

Omg absolutely yes!! I can't thank you enough for this information. By the way what type of cancer did you have and what stage? You have helped me so much

Invasive ductal. Stage 1-A. Glad this helped. The hard times seem to be when you have to return for follow-up. But if you prepare yourself for that it helps. Don't hesitate to check back as often as you need to.

I know the chemo is looming ahead for you, however they really worked with me at my doctor's office and they were so helpful when I was ready to give it up. I know you can do this. It will be in your rear view mirror in no time. All the things I was anxious about seem smaller now. That's hard to think right now, but hang in there girl. There are two things I can advise. Lean on God like you've never leaned on him before. And take one day at a time. The "what ifs" can only hurt you. Recognize when you are starting to circle the drain and catch it before it sucks you in. Tell yourself to get busy doing something else and to stop thinking about it for the moment. Then act. I know, easy to say, hard to do. I still have to do it every day.

Hello. First, giving all honor and glory to God. Bc without Him, I would not be here or be able to stand strong through this battle.
I was on docetaxel. First, let me say, everyone is different and will have different experiences with medication. It was the worse for me. I lost my nails, they all fell off. Not trying to scare anyone, but this was my experience. All nails turned black, toes and fingers. I developed neuropathy. I had a few mouth sores, but the worse was the neuropathy and nails falling off. If I think of anything drastically different than your regular hair loss, nausea, fatigue, etc. I will let you know. I’ve learned that we have to help the body fight and recover with natural remedies as much as possible bc the chemo kills not only the cancer cells but the healthy parts of the body as well. If we don’t help the body build itself back up, we lose it.

Hi: my only side effect was a little neuropathy in my feet and I was icing my hands, head and feet at all 12 treatments. Now I am on 4 rounds of Doxorubicin every 3 wks apart. Just finished #2. I’ve lost my eyelashes and my hair is starting to shed. I hope this helps. @chrisbomstad
