Prevent neuropathy from getting worse with chemo
Already suffer from neuropathy. Starting chemo in a couple of weeks for stage 3c colon cancer. Anyone have any suggestions for preventing neuropathy from getting worse? Thanks in advance.

Hello @essarrbee, Welcome to Connect. I'm sure you are not alone with your neuropathy concerns. I only have numbness with my neuropathy but definitely don't want it to get worse from another treatment. While you wait for members with experience to respond, you might find this related discussion helpful:

Have you discussed your concerns with your care team to see if they might also have some suggestions?
@essarrbee
My suggestion would be to work with a nutritionist/dietitian to review your diet and supplements and make recommendations due to having colon cancer/chemo treatments and how best to support your healing. They can suggest a diet/supplements that help with detoxification and nerve support/healing.
Praying for you to get good results. 🙏
Thanks for the linked discussion. I've spoken with my doctor and my worry is also on his list of concerns but he did not have any suggestions for prevention. I also spoke to a couple of chemo nurses and one recommended vitamin B6 which is supposed to help prevent additional damage to nerves.
Thank you for the recommendation. I'll bet my doc office will have a recommendation for nutritionist.
From what I’ve read B6 is not good for neuropathy so only use a very low dose if at all.
I’ve bought compression socks for neuropathy and wear them at night and that seems to help.
I'm going to talk with my endocrinologist and oncologist before adding that to my list of meds and supplements. Thank you for letting me know!
I've tried them and find them helpful when I'm going to be on my feet walking a lot, but when I have a day where I have to sit a lot, they cause my neuropathy to be worse in my feet. I can't wait to get them off. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. I guess this is a lot of trial and error.
I agree with the above person who said B6 is not good for neuropathy.
That is interesting. I have lymphedema along with neuropathy and was told not to wear the socks at night. They have boots you can wear that help. Check with your doctor to see if it is okay to wear them at night. Best of luck.
