Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

I haven’t posted on here since. I can’t give you advice one way or the other but I can tell you my experience, so far. I turned 47 4 days before my 12th and final Evinity. I had AV-node tachycardia and an AV-node ablation at 17 years old but have always suffered high heart-rate. I also had 2 suspected TIA’s in my 30’s so I put off Evenity in fear for heart attack or stroke but found myself with few options. After my 2nd Evenity treatment, I was experiencing similar symptoms… racing heart rate and tingling arms and thighs. It turned out it was a drop in calcium and magnesium. With my primary’s advice, I up’d the calcium, staggered throughout the day, and every few days I did a magnesium-flake foot soak and kept on with the Evenity. My pre-Evenity T-score in my spine was -4.3 in 2021 and -4.1 in 2023. I had my last shots in Dec 2024 and my Jan ‘25 Dexa showed -2.5. Meanwhile, I had gotten hooked up with a top-notch endocrinologist in Boston. When I met with him a few weeks ago, he was very skeptical about the Dexa results. He has treated many patients and never seen a gain more than 15-16%. I had to get him the actual Dexa images and am still awaiting his verdict as to whether or not those are real gains. What I can tell you is, aside from the exhaustion and brain-fog from the Evenity, after the increased calcium and the magnesium-flake foot soaks, the rest was easy and I definitely feel a difference, not just in my lower back, but my femurs and lower arms, for sure. Also, about halfway the the treatment, I found out my cousin (in R.I.) actually worked on the quality assurance piece of the Evenity manufacturing line for Amgen. This brought me a great deal of comfort, as well. I planned to post here after I get confirmation from my endocrinologist on what he thinks of the results but, after seeing your post, I wanted to respond sooner. Also, I should note that my primary encouraged me to do squats and add weight where I could when doing routine exercises. Additionally, my Dexa saw no gain in my femoral neck. It was -3.0 before and -3.0 after.

@auntievintage. May your results hold true! I look forward to your good news confirmation.
I am heading into #9. My only concern is the femoral neck
Results. That is my main issue.
Well, onward and upward!🙏

Auntie & gmom. Likely to be starting Evenity. Waiting for insurance with hopeful interest & fearfulness of side effects. Please advise as you see fit. Best to you two and all the others on this journey

I am going to start Evenity in August and I am scared to death. Possible side effects. I have to do something. Recovering from 5 thoracic fractures, after being on Prolia. I guess it isn’t working to wee.

I'm glad to hear you had success. I just started Evenity and petrified of side effects. Had some after first set and worried. I had major back surgery in 2023 and it's not fusing, so Dr wants me on Evenity to give bone. It's painful. What med are you on now after Evenity to lock in growth?
I wish you well.

I had no side effect on Evenity. I was scared of Prolia and never tried that.

Thank you. I will have faith that because I had no side effects from Prolia I will be fine on the Evenity.

On June 17 , I will take my last Evenity shot. The first sets of Evenity were excruciating for me. Apparently, others had bad experiences, because they changed the location from the Dr office to the infusion center where trained nurses give the shots...amazing difference! My doctor is recommending a Reclast infusion, after I finish my shots.
I have no idea if I have had any improvement. I meet with my doctor in June...so I will let you know how/if I have improved.
