Hi,
No wonder he still has it, he's likely feeding it not killing it! It is an infection/ bug that must be killed to stop it. It mistyfies me a Dr doesn't understand that, not so smart. I think you should do your own research if that is his recommendation. At least get a second opinion from a Gastologist and stay away from anecdotal evidence. As I said before SIBO is not to be toyed with.
Prebiotics are what you take for probiotics to live on in the gut. If you have IBS severely then you must take the prebiotic for the probiotic to survive on while it becomes estabilished. Other wise you are feeding the so called yest enzymes making the flora in the gut even more unbalanced. Incidentaly onion is a prebiotic and a digestive.
Cheers

Please be careful in the advice that you give to others. There are so many different ways that SIBO and all 3 of its currently known iterations can affect different people and there are actually very opposing opinions in the medical field about the best way to treat it. The biome is still just beginning to be understood and what works for one and has been the best course of treatment may actually do harm to another. I've been living with it for 11 years and before you tell me that I wouldn't still have it if it I treated it your way, please know that I'm a two time cancer survivor and previous radiation treatment has literally fried my digestive tract. I'm also chock full of adhesions and scar tissue which should not be operated on and those adhesions have created numerous partial bowel obstructions that I'm living with every day. I also worked in the medical field for 17 years before becoming disabled by my digestive health so I have an inordinate amount of experience with these issues. I'm very glad that you have found what works for you and a doctor who is providing you with that treatment. I know you probably mean well but please allow others to deal with their health the way that is safest for them.
