Diabetic Retinopathy eye condition
I’m type 1 diabetic and was diagnosed with Retinopathy several years ago. Yearly eye exams kept condition from worsening. One day my right eye developed vitreous detachment and eye blood vessel hemorrhage. I’ve been receiving eye injections for last two years. Wondering if anyone is receiving these injections and are they working?

I'm sorry to hear of your eye condition. I had a retinal bleed in my left eye in 1984. I couldn't see the big E on the eye chart even. At that time laser surgery was the means of dealing with retinopathy as far as I knew in my case. I had 13 laser treatments on that eye. Doctor needed for the blood to settle to completely due the treatment because he couldn't see through the "fog". Sleeping sitting up was the process to make that happen. Also had treatments to my right eye as well. Currently have 20/40 vision in my left eye and 20/30 in my right.
Sorry I can't comment on your specific procedure. But I truly believe I would have been blind years ago without the treatment I received.
Best of luck to you.
@helena341 and @drlundeen I had a similar eye situation to the two of you in 2008 (I think). It started with lots of strange shaped floaters that looked like bugs, birds, kites, sailboats, airplanes, herbs & spices…. I ended up being diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy. My treatment involved a vitrectomy and some sort of laser treatment that had an acronym name. Sometime after that these treatments led to cataract surgery. Years after that I had cataract surgery in the other eye. Now my distance vision is good and I’m technically legal to drive without glasses. I’ve had glasses since I was 6 years old so I’m used to it. I have glasses with a reader prescription for near vision / reading. I’m so very grateful for how my situation turned out. Sounds like you too had good results @drlundeen. Hoping and praying for the best for you @helena341. Keep us posted?
Wonderful to hear lazer treatments worked so well for you and your eye sight is that good👍🏻 Our time frame is similar, in 1986 photos ‘spot light’ type photos 36 each visit were used to diagnose eye problem. Retinopathy developed after couple years and was watched closely. Then in 2021 on New Year’s Day, I woke up with red flame like imagine in right eye. Contacted eye institute, immediate appt and blood vessel bleeding. Retina specialist clearly stated I needed eye injection to heal the bleed. Dr said injections work wonders and I believed that was all I would need and be finished. No, I’ve been going every 4 mths for injection and now it’s every 3 mths. But they help and I can see to read, drive etc🙏🏻
Thank you for your reply. Any thing with the eyes is frightening but so grateful that there are treatments for people with eye diseases. I never expected to be faced with eye injections but so far they help me keep my vision🙏🏻 Retinopathy was being closely watched and my Dr said I needed cataract surgery. I was afraid that would ‘upset’ my eyes status but was reassured my eyes are healthy enough to handle cataract surgery. A year after cataract surgery was done, my right eye developed a bleed. 2021 began injections. Cataracts are gone and injections keep my vision. Wish there was a better solution but who knows what the future holds for those with eye diseases.
Well that is something to have to have done every 3 months. But I "see" where it is definitely worth it. Very glad it is working for you.
Stay well.
