Have you ever tried a night splint for your Achilles problem? I've had a lot of problems with Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, and a night splint has always fixed the problem. I can only sleep with it on for about 4 hours, but that is enough to help. I prefer the ones that are solid behind the heel, and that are adjustable so that you can get a slight stretch. You can buy them at Amazon and health supply stores/websites.

Sorry for sidetracking the original topic. My heel has been diagnosed with tendinitis, tendinosis, heel spur, and Haglund's deformity. The lump on the back of my heel is fairly large, not the little 'pump bump' that is depicted in online images. I wear backless shoes. A night splint was never suggested. My insurance paid for orthotics but have only found one pair of backless shoes they will fit inside. Insurance also paid for a walking boot which alleviates the pain but after a few weeks, the pain returns when not wearing the boot. I appreciate the suggestion and will follow-up with the foot doctor if he thinks it would help.
