I am 76, diagnosed 2 months before I turned 70. I am currently taking 2.5mg prednisone.
I am staying at this dose for a couple weeks til tapering to 2.0.
I have pain daily in the uppermost back of my legs (lower butt). I do not think it's pmr.
Two rheumatologists have suggested that I may be on prednisone permanently and to get to the lowest dose I can.
I am trying this extremely slow taper.
Like many people I am plagued with other problems.
I have an Achilles problem which is painful, cppd and oa in my hands and left knee that sometimes get aggravated and either Menierre's or vestibular migraine attacks that really throw me for a loop.
So in the big scheme of all these problems, one day at a time trying to eat healthy, get enough rest, stay reasonably active is what I can do. Complaining doesn't help.

Have you ever tried a night splint for your Achilles problem? I've had a lot of problems with Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, and a night splint has always fixed the problem. I can only sleep with it on for about 4 hours, but that is enough to help. I prefer the ones that are solid behind the heel, and that are adjustable so that you can get a slight stretch. You can buy them at Amazon and health supply stores/websites.
